I received an anchor from Steve which was absolutely brilliantly made. The attention to detail is fantastic. I found him to be very courteous and helpful when I originally placed my order. I would highly recommend him.”

“The handmade remembrance anchor that Stephen made for me is a beautifully crafted piece, perfect for honoring those who served in the Falklands war, and remembering those who didn’t return home. Made with exceptional attention to detail, its sturdy design and unique craftsmanship showcase the skill of the blacksmith. This anchor not only serves as a meaningful symbol but also as a lasting, high-quality work of art.”

A BIG thank you to Stephen Jopling from Six Anchor Forge / Blacksmiths who made a beautiful remembrance cross for St Peter’s Church Falstone.  It is skilfully made and a fitting tribute to the men of the North Tyne Valley and the surrounding area who sacrificed their future so we could have ours in two World Wars. St Peter’s feels honoured to have it on display in our church. It is absolutely stunning and worth seeing and reflecting on its meaning.

Stephen describes the inspiration for his design below…..

“The blackness and ruggedness of the cross signifies pain, sacrifice, struggle and the cruelty that lies dormant in all of us in the dark shadows of our souls. The central twists are meant to represent wheat, which is food and signifies life spreading up the main body of the cross. The bright green, heart shaped copper leaves is life bursting out of the cross. It represents hope, love, beauty and the better side of humanity, it’s in contrast to the darkness of the cross. It is resurrection of hope. Then, of course, the poppy is in remembrance of all those men and women who have made the sacrifice of service to the country and the people of this country. Which brings us back full circle to sacrifice. The circle of life”.

Just taken delivery of a beautiful anchor decorated with a SAM rose and poppy from Steve at Six Anchor Forge .  A great commemorative piece representing my time in the Royal Navy, my adventure in 1982 in the Falklands and a tribute to all those who gave their today, for our tomorrow for our freedom.  It will take pride of place in my garden.

Thanks to Stephen Jopling for accepting the commission and for keeping me updated with regular photos during the production process.  Steve, you have a great talent and a fantastic business I am already thinking of my next commission.
